They are called "Fire eel"(Mastacembelus erythrotaenia). I wouldn't try it as I had a large tire track eel that would like to bite the fins on everything so I eventually had to get rid of it. Worse case scenario is the ray would have a chunk missing out of its disc.petronej;4826384; said:We are planning a Stingray tank. We'll likey have a few Discus in the tank too. Has anyone had experience pairing Stingrays with Flame Eeels?
Thanks,

That's why I said worse case scenario would be a chunk out of the disc. Why risk the way more expensive ray getting a bite out of it over a $15 fire eel. So many more fish that are more compatible! Check out my Signature for my compatible tank mates for rays. There are many more choices then what I have in my tanks.ajsmith235;4826569; said:I had a fire eel with mine and had no problems...

If you have read up about discus, they need a calm envirement, and happy rays are nothing near to calm. You would need a really big tank for this to work out right, ive had rays and discus, went _ok_, but when i got myselfe thinking, 5 rays in 180g growout, and discus, its just stupid if you care for the discus.. And in the end, no matter how you put it, discus will be an expencive meal, the rays will easely grow out the discus and eat them.
