Sandy bottom, they love to blow and search in it. Some people advocate bubbles but mine don't go for it.
i've heard (not personal experience) that they will even play around with things such as wiffle balls since they aren't fully enclosed and can be sunk and even put a treat in, like some shrimp.
I have seen other fish play with these so it would not blow me away if they did. why not try and make a video! Just make sure they do not eat it!
In my tank , I have the round ball plants that go in the bio-orb tanks I put pellets in them and the rays muscle them around for hours and the tank is constantly redecorating itself.

Bubbles and a strong flow!! my rays love to play in both for hours. My large female will sit on a big airstone for ages, im sure the bubbles stimulate her as she seems to be in a trance when you look at her.
My pups will cruise at the surface for hours at a time just sitting in the flow.
