I plan to add a piece of diftwood. (More of a rooted stump) and am curious if it will be too sharp for the ray? will he "accidentally bump into it and cut himself?" its a motoro.

Rays deal with sharp obkects all the time in the wild, but they are limited to space. As long as it has the opportunity to go around rather than traverse it, I think it would be OK. Post a pic.

Should be ok...

havent had a problem and my pieces were pretty rough

Most people on here seem to keep their rays with driftwood. I would be more worried about rocks with sharp edges.

I think you guys are worrying way too much. In the wild rays lives with sharp rock edges, tree stump that can take your eyes out and etc.

My rule of thumb is that make sure you have enough open floor space around the ornament as big as the diameter and you'll be okay.

sharp substrate is a not a good idea... i wouldnt put a jagged rock on my tank either but it shouldnt really be a problem...
