this is kind of a repost of my last topic but... I think I already got my answer but I would like to know first hand if anyone has kept oscars and rays together with success?

here is my story

I am building a 425 gallon tank. 88''L x 41''W x 28'' H. I like my oscars and the plan was to put all 6 oscars with my silver arowana. I am planning on buying 2 motoro stingrays, 10'' male 8'' female. I am going to have dither fish for the oscars ( tinfoil barbs) to beat on. The tank has a nice footprint to it and I was wondering if I could make oscars and rays work. If I make hiding places for the rays, keep my water and sand very clean, feed them all good. Can they co-exist with oscars in that size of tank? I will do lots of gravel vacs to keep ray and oscar bio load down.

all tips, advice welcome

thanks

there are people who have done it..... there are risks involved..... this was answered in your other thread.... use the search bar and you will also find other threads on this topic

depends on the oscar mate..

I was in the same position as you.

long story short i got rid of my oscars....
u dont want to wake up and see your oscars pecking at your rays eyes ...
but not saying it WILL happen, but it can?
Rays cost to much in australia to risk it, so it may be a diffrent story for you.

if you are prepared to accept the risk. go for it.
I dont rekon a ray should be hiding from an oscar, a clear sign its being picked on, which to me would say oscars are out!

so really what you need to ask your self is what you like more , oscars or rays...

i currently have an oscar with my ray .

they have been happy for a while asside from one incident where i had to put my hand in and get the ray off the oscar . ive never heard of anyone having massive problems other than when i saw some wild discus in a ray tank .

the ray subsiquently lost its eyes .

id upload a pic of my ray and oscar but i dont know how . so i wont lol

How would you provide hiding places for rays that the oscars couldn't get to?

hey kyle

I re homed my oscars. i have 2 wild oscars now. They keep about there own business. They leave the bottom dwellers I have now alone. They fight with each other sometimes and leave other fish alone. I am not worried now.

I pick up my 2 motoro saturday morning. I leave edmonton at 6 am :nilly:

I can hardly wait :grinno:
