I just found out that my female motoro likes to eat shrimps with shell intact. She never ate the shell before and will expertly" de -shell" the shrimp once she gets them.

So who here feeds their ray with shell and without ? Pros and Cons ? ??

I use small shrimp, so it wont cause any problem. Just cut the tail off and the head.

alot of people say that its not good for rays to eat shell

rays actually benift from eating the shell, its high in "roughage" and it enhances breeding.

if rays eat crustateans in the wild then why shouldnt they eat it in captivity ;)

Not only that but the shell is high in carotenoid and will enhance the reds and oranges of the ray.. ;)

I need to try that. My rays (1M/1F 6") will not eat raw fish or shrimp but I never tried with the shell on. Blackworms and nightcrawlers are devoured very fast. Nightcrawlers seem to turn my tank "anti-freeze" green, they release something that is the exact color and glow as anti-freeze. So if I could get them on shrimp it would be GREAT!!!!
