Just wondering...please dont start a war...if anyone who plans to put their Stingrays in a community tank de-barbs their Stingrays. The reason I ask is that the aquarium did it on their 6 1/2 foot Roughtail Stingray which is kept with Whitetip Reef, Nurse, Sandtiger, a Permit, and a few huge Seaturtles. I was wondering if anyone does it here.

i did not de-barb my ray for the same reason i did not de-barb my RTC (there is no reason to do it) ... just gotta be more careful that's all. Anyway, doesn't the barb grow back anyhow? How is barb removed actually? wouldn't the ray struggle or something?

its not needed.... dont reccomend it either...

rays don't go around stinging other fish(usually), so wouldn't there be no point to de-barbing a ray? Most reasons stingrays can't be kept with many other fish is because the stingray either eats the other fish, the other fish pick at the stingray or because of food competition-not because of rays stinging other fish.

agreed no reason to do it... it will just grow back and most likly just lead to infection and the ray dieing ... to much added stress in the process as well
