Okay so I have a 90 gallon setup right now. I'm in the process of removing some fish and and rehoming them. But what I will have left after getting rid of fish is 4 geophagus satanoperca jurupari. 2 are about 6 inches (absolutley beautiful by the way!) The other 2 are about 3 inches. 4 geophagus red head tapajos. Still small 2-3 inches. Once they get a little bigger I will keep the 2 with the best color. And lastly a wild caught green terror from Ecuador about 3 inches. I plan on moving all fish to a 125 next year. But what would be some good tank mates for right now that I can grow out with these guys for the 125. Opinions please!

tank is still over stocked IMHO. the green terrors are quite aggressive. do not see them happening with earth-eaters or tapajos in a 90g. to keep that stock looking at a 180g or larger. again just my opinion, your mileage may very.

The geo red heads are going to do best in a group of four or more, so I wouldn't rehome any of them. Without a group, they often become very shy and you won't see them. That or rehome them all together.

The Satanoperca aren't geos, but are earth eaters. I would take your pick of the four you have and rehome two of them as Satanoperca do just fine without groups.

That green terror is going to end up brutally ruling that tank. It will end up almost double the size of those geos and will likely end up killing them. The Satanoperca grow bigger, but may still end up being terrorized by the GT.

Your stock list is beyond maxed out with just the seven fish you have. I would rehome the GT, add some tetras and call it done.

So then I will rehome the 2 smaller satanoperca. And I will get a tank for the green terror alone because hes got amazing colors at 3 inches. He even has a nuchal hump. I jyst cant get rid of him. And the satanoperca, They are probably 4 times bigger then the green terror and the 4 red heads.. so my final stock would be 2 satanoperca and 4 redheads. What type of tetra do you suggest?

I like fish they are my friends. If I could be a fish I would. That is all

I have always been drawn to lemon tetras. I love the contrast of the red eyes and yellow fin to the silver body. They hit 3", so are not going to become a snack unless you have an unusually aggressive.

If you are willing to shell out the money, I love Congo tetras. Lots of color and they hit around the same size as lemons. They have long fins though, so don't put them in with the GT or they will become attractive snacks. Lol

I agree that the cichlids in the tribe Geophagini are social (including the Satanoperca), and removing a few Geo red heads, to just leave 2 is not a good idea, when they grow up together, they set up a hierarchy, and when you remove a few, they may not be the right ones to take out, the 2 left might then be prone to kill one another, or without the others, whither away and simply hide all the time.
Although some green terrors live up to their name, some don't, and if you are lucky, by growing up the Geos and GT together, a stable community can be achieved in the 125, as long as the only other fish you add are dither types, such as the suggested tetras.
But "avoiding" adding other cichlids to an already established, working mix is usually the best solution.
If you go to ,the midwest cichlid association/ south american cichlids/125 biotope, you can see a video of just such a beautiful working tank.

How many satanoperca jurupari could I put into the 90 gallon withoutnit being overstocked if I were to just keep satanoperca. Or how many red heads could I keep in a 90 without it being to much. Because I was offered 6 three inch red heads for $20 which is a pretty amazing deal. But my lfs has 5 four to 5 inch juruparis. Should I go with the 6 red heads and then I would have a total of 10. They get 6 inches max correct? Opinions please

Just Satanoperca : 4
Just Geo red heads: 6

The geo red heads can hit 6-8" in optimal conditions depending on gender, but 4-6" is a lot more common.

Personally, I would take the geo red heads, let them grow out a bit and then rehome the four I didn't want. They should easily sell for $10-15 each at 4".

I would have 10 red heads and 4 satanoperca. But I would be getting rid of the smallest satanoperca so that would leave me with 2
