I am looking at picking up a 40b in the next week or so. My problem is stocking, I have no idea what I want to put in there. I would really love to have a nice colorful "center piece" fish such as a EBJD but do not know what else to put in there. I would really like some smaller schooling fish to have a lot of movement. Any input or suggestions and other ideas will be greatly appreciated. I would love to keep it american cichlids and fish that can be housed with them.

keep it electric blue
Electric blue acara
Electric Blue Rams
Electric blue crayfish (probably not a good idea w fish)
blue phantom pleco
probably not enough room long term for a JD (or the phantom)
Dwarf cichlids might be a better bet, especially if you want a lot of movement.

if you're going to pick a 40b up, you should do it soon, the $ per gallon sale was going on last week. If you want shoaling fish, do a 40b with exodons, a ebjd will grow it out.

This tank will be a temporary home for the EBJD. I have a buddy who is looking for a 125g for me. This tank will be used as a growout/hospital tank in the future.

PetCo is running another dollar a gallon sale until 5 Aug. A 40B will run you $47.20 with taxes on the electronic coupon and tank. iow - tax is on the full retail which I believe they all list at $119.99 (a bit steep) but hey! $1/gallon.

Yea that is why I am going to go ahead and pick one up. My 45 is already stocked enough so I dont want to add the ebjd in with the 2 gold jacks and the other fish. Just an excuse for another fish tank.

My 40B may be overstocked very shortly. Bunch of fry hatched out 3 days ago. And I mean a bunch... way more than 600 and probably close to 1000.
