Looking for some stocking advice for 125G, 4x2' footprint. Looking to keep South Americans only.

Current residents are, 2 Green Severum, 1 Blue Acara, 1 Bristlenose Pleco. Please try and keep in mind that I have a semi-limited choice due to me living in Australia.

I'm a fan of Uaru's and Geophagus, and was considering adding a Gold Sev as a third Severum for the tank. Also a fan of GT's.

I like to leave my fish some room so I don't want to max out my tank stocking wise, though my plan below might be doing that :p

2x Green Severum
1x Blue Acara
1x Aequidens sp. Gold Suam
3x Uaru
2x Geo's (what variety? Any advice? :D)

Any suggestions and advice much appreciated. It will be a lightly planted tank with an abundance of rocks, with sand looking like the substrate (suitable for Geos?)

Cheers.

well knowing that you have some lesser aggressive south american cichlids already. you could problembly add a jackdempsey in there. but just to warn you if do decide to get a jackdempsey becareful adding the green terror since you like them because the jackdempsey and greenterror are something like rivals and may fight.

Was originally contemplating a JD but decided I would stick with South Americans only. Cheers for your input :)

Decided against the Uaru due to their varied water requirements under the advice of someone who's kept them for a long time.

Slightly revised list, open to more critique. (please!)

1x Aequidens pulcher "Blue Acara"
2x Heros efasciatus "Green Severum"
1x Ancistrus sp. "Bristlenose Pleco"
1x Heros efasciatus (Gold Strain) "Gold Severum"
1x Aequidens sp. Gold Saum "Green Terror"
3/4x Geophagus sp. "Pindare"

I like Brasiliensis' but they get too large and due to this and there aggression, will not be suitable tankmate's with the Pindare's. Any suggestions for another fairly commonly available Geophagus species that will interact with the Pindare?

Also looking at adding a reasonable sized shoal of Congo Tetra but I'm worried that the GT and possibly even the Blue Acara will do some damage to them at full size.

Has anyone seen Red Port Acara for sale in Australia? Considering a pair of these too. Ah the choices.

Cheers.

I was about to suggest a port acara. They are cool looking little fish.

About the aggression issue. I know you are worried about the Brasiliensis being too aggressive, but there is a fair chance that the Goldsaum will be just as aggressive if not more. This is where fishkeeping is a bit of trial and error type hobby. I wouldn't count the brasiliensis out quite yet. I think they are the best looking geos by far.

Anyway, you could also do some bolivian rams as long as there are hiding spots for them, or Keyhole cichlids as well. These two species stay smaller and typically aren't aggressive.

i sugest geophagus altifrons(? I think thats how you spell it) beautiful geo with trailing fins. But honestly I think that tank is one of my dream tanks. Good luck!!

What ??? no uaru ??? :(

they would have been perfect for the tank !!! what did you friend tell you about them ???

they are easy to keep.

i would lose the GT and add the uaru and some keyholes

Knew you would be dissappointed :p Just about their preference for a longer footprint tank as a schooling fish, preference for higher temperature etc. He said it could work without a problem, but didn't recommend it as he felt the fish would not be ideally suited for it, which is something I'm aiming for. Next upgrade perhaps :)

I've already lost the GT, I feel the tank is a little too small footprint wise to accommodate one without slight aggression problems. Also considering just replacing the Geo idea with Red Port Acara if I can get a hold of them.

1x Blue Acara
1x Chocolate Cichlid
2x Green Severum
1x Gold Severum
1x BN Pleco
2x Red Port Acara / 3x Pindare

ok you are forgiven...:raspberry

that sounds like a nice stock list in you last post. should be a very interesting tank !!! just watch the sevs if they pair up you will have a problem on you hands.

Don't worry, it's changed even more. Was possibly aiming for a Biotype aquarium based around the Severums but that idea's been scratched. Any opinions on this list? Mainly worried about the Keyholes.

2x Heros efasciatus "Green Severum"
1x Ancistrus sp. "Bristlenose Pleco"
1x Aequidens pulcer "Blue Acara"
1x Hypselecara temporalis "Chocolate Cichlid"
3x Cleithracara maronii "Keyhole Cichlid"

Possibly replacing of the Keyholes with Acarichthys heckelii.

Cheers.
