Tank Size: 72" x 20" x 25" 160g
Filtration: XP3 + FX5
Decor: PFS w/smaller river rock, driftwood and moderate plants (fake)

After learning a hard lesson I now have an empty tank to stock. I have been thinking of just doing a replacement stock and ending up with something like 7 Geo. Red Head Tapajos, 3 Severums, 9 Congo Tetras but I have been thinking since this is essentially a fresh start maybe I could go with a slightly bigger CA stock. The only issue is that my knowledge of compatible CA cichlids that generally grow larger then 5-6" is slim.

So I'm wondering if someone could put together a nice colorful CA stock list that would work in this tank size. What I'm looking for out of this stocklist is something of size - not all have to be larger then 7" but I would prefer if one or two were and nice bright/vivid colors or patterns.

Well in my limited CA experience it is hard to create a community with any CAs larger than 7" in such a small tank. They are very aggressive. If you are really only interestd in CAs I would suggest just getting a pair of Jaguars or RTMs.

My other suggestion would be to do something like a Jack Dempsey, Texas, convict, and maybe a Nicaragua Cichlid. When creating this type of community IME you will definetly have more luck raising them all together, however with the aggressiveness of these cichlids nothing is for certain.

If you wanted to move over to some SA type cichlids you will have many more options....

Best of luck!

I was thinking of some sort of Vieja or two? Not a big convict fan I like HRPs over them (for color). I have had Nics in the past and they are a favorite of mine, only had a female who grew to only 5", maybe 5.5" but had just gorgeous blue/gold coloration.
