Hi, So i have been researching into the silver arowana and wanted to get one in the future. But i had a question on a tank for him. Would a small one around 6 inches be fine in my 150 for like 6 months? My 150 has no fish in it at the time and would only have fish added as tankmates for the aro when he hit around 11 inches.
Then i was wondering if a plastic stock tank that is 8 x 2 would be appropriate and deep enough? This is the one in question im looking at http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...d-round-plastic-tank-8-ft-x-2-ft?cm_vc=-10005 . Thank you in advance for any answers

LIDS ARE A MUST! Tight fitting too. My gold crossback, that I had 4 years, jumped out of a space I had in a makeshift lid while I was waiting for the tops on my new tanks. Not a pretty sight. IMG_1527.JPG

So sorry for your loss that's not a pretty sight :(
Tight lids are a must with heavy weights on them if there not glass sliders , I've had a 24" jardini jump and knock the lid and weights off the top of my hood and end up on the floor

I would use lighting diffuser aka egg crate over the tops. I would attach foam on there just incase if they jump won't hurt them. Get a brick or some type of weight and place it on top.

What I don't like about glass is if the aro wanted he can shatter that glass or possibly crack it. The weight holding it will fall in the water and possibly hurting the fish. Lighting diffuser is most durable.

In my 500 gallon tank I used like cage fence material for the top with bricks on there. Never had one issue. No way it can break that material. I had two aros over 3 feet so I needed some reassurance.

The bigger the fish are the easier it is to stay in the tank!

Thats nuts! At night they go crazy with the slightest touch. This is why I don't keep Aros anymore too much anxiety on me lol and plus wife won't let me get anything bigger than my 200 gallon. The 500 gallon is now a saltwater tank at my fathers home lol

Light diffusers are fine for smaller specimens, but for larger specimens I would go with plastic roofing panels.

I had my aros in the stock pond while repairing my aquarium. I got the plastic chicken fence and drilled holes on the pond lip and zip tied it all down
