I'm wanting to upgrade my turtles to a stock tank. I've got everything planned out except where to put the tank. My backup plan is to just put it in the basement, that way I don't have to worry about it hurting the floor if I decide to go with the 300 gallon, which I'd like to, but it would be more convenient to keep the turtles in the room they're in. Even if I do the 300 gallon tank, the whole system including the sump will only have around 250 gallons or water. The tank itself is a little over 5'X5' and the sump will be beside, spreading a little of the weight out over a little more area.

What do you guys think? Would a normal wooden joist floor safely be able to hold up around 250 gallons spread out over 20-25 sq ft? When I'm at home in a week and a half, I'll look more into the joist size and spacing, but just based on your average residential floor, what are your opinions?

The floor would probably hold, but you don't wanna risk it get it inspected first. I would say that the basement would probably be the best for holding heavy tanks.
