Stock tank pond

What you planning on keeping in there and how difficult would it to be for you to physically get in there and vacuum the bottom?

Unless the fish actually need the sand or substrate in general I’d go with bare bottom.

I would personally have sand no bare bottom unless temporary setup. I agree with fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 about if the fish needed it. I would also say it's a personal thing.

Well as of now it will be permanent. But I maybe building a large plywood tank in the same spot. That will be a couple years. Its for my polys. So they could be bare bottom but I think with the black sides it may be better to see them with white or light brown sand. That may be why it'll be a plywood build eventually so I can have windows to see them. Hoping this will not drive me crazy. It didnt bug me when I had cat sharks in it. That had sand.

A moment of indecision. Still kind of unsure. Id like to be able to put some Val in the back and try a couple other things like a lotus or pond lily too but those will be potted anyway. I guess my main concern was being able to see all of them easily.

Put sand for your bichir. You don’t necessarily need the full bottom covered and don’t need it that deep. The color will show better especially red/garnet sand

Ahh, for your bichirs I'd put a light layer of sand. Not light enough that you can see the bottom but just enough that even if they get going they won't be able to move enough sand to see the bottom.
