Having found a good souce of blue Stock Tubs i'm planning on building a nice big 3 tub system consisting of 2 small tubs flowing through into a larger tub (then filters, and repeat!) However, i'd also like to be able to put glass or acrylic windows into the sides of the tubs, but before i even think about cutting a hole in the side of one I'd like to know what i'm doing!

I did a quick search here and found a thread with some one asking the same question but no replies. The 'small' tubs are (if i remember rightly!) 6'L x 3'W x 2'D, and the large is 8'6"L x 4'W x 2'6"D and not sure how the structural integrity of them would suffer having most of a side removed as they are pretty flexible to start with and how well silicone will fix to this surface. I have experience siliconing glass to glass but not on acrylic/fibreglass and would like to avoid a very expensive and very wet mistake.

Any help would be much appreciated! I don't mind just being able to view my big cats from the surface if i'm peeing in the wind here but a side view would be nice too!

If they have a flat surface to work with. I would use a peice of plexi for the window and between the plexi and tub use a windshield gasket and run some pop rivets thru the tub and plexi to hold it tight. If the plexi looked like it may crack from the pressure of the pop rivet, then i would buy some flat stainless steel from a hardware store like 1/8'' thick by 1'' wide by (how ever long the window is) and use the to back up the plexi and distribute the force.
