Looking for stocking ideas for 55 gallon.

Partial to SA/CA Cichlids but open to other ideas.

Thanks

Are you a noobie to fishkeeping? or cichlids? Well anyhow i would suggest maybe a couple breeding pairs of cons or firemouths or maybe a breeding pair of jacks if you are interested in seeing breeding behaviour. If you are going for the aggro community tank then maybe a jack or GT and possibly a few male cons with some dithers. Or for like a single species tank you could do a true texas or a mota would make for a killer single specimen tank.

lol...
man how many of these questions do we get on a weekly basis? :p

honestly
1- you can't put too many fish in there
2- there are tons of different combinations you could possibly fit inside, but at the end of the day it boils down to your preferences, your budget and what aspect of fish you like. honestly if you are interested in aggressive fish, a 55 gallon is asking for a lot of stressed out fish and i would not recommend that. it's better to either keep one mean *** MOFO in there or a few fish that can live together.
3 - do you want only cichlids?

if you are new to fish just get the typical convict, firemouth stuff. jack dempseys are ok, but still really common. red devils, trimacs etc etc will eventually have to be moved as well.

if you want to get less common CA stuff that is still manageble to keep, i say get some guys like nanoluteus, septemfasciatus, nicaraguensis, thorichthys aureus, maybe neetroplus. go do a search on each of these on the internet and find out what they look like, their sizes, their requirements (most i have listed should be fairly easy to keep, but are not quite N00b fish).

if you want to go for common SA stuff do the GT, severum stuff. oscars will outgrow that tank in a few months.
but if you want less common items there are plenty ranging from dwarf pikes, acaras, rotikel severums, discus (not N00b fish), maybe apistos if you have knowledge on their husbandry.

the list goes on. go read up, go find pictures then you will get a better idea.

I'll be more specific next time, sorry about that.

No I'm not a noob just board and have a empty 55 that I want to fill and wanted to pick your brains, mine just keeps going back to FH or GT for some reason and I want to look at all options before commeting.

I'm looking for more a one or two fish show tank for Cichlids or any other nice fish for that matter, does not have to be an aggressive fish, just has to look good and live happily in a 55.

As far as what I have now Oscars, cons, blue acara, fh/bp, gold severums, striped raphale cats. So I was just sticking with the the rest of the tanks and looking for others ideas on a good 55 gallon stock.

I'm not in to african cichlids or small schooling fish all that much.

Hope that clears up the question some.

Could I keep a mota in a 55? I had them in mind at first but thought they needed 75+

I think you'd be fine with a single male motag in a 55 for life. How about grammodes too?

what about a breeding pair? would any of the jag/mota famialy be any good or all to big for a pair in a 55?
seem to be looking in that direction, will go with one fish tank but would love a pair if it can be done.
