Bought a 135, and have just kept a Pleco in it for the last couple of years. Finally stocking the tank. So far, I have 2 Oscars, a Green Terror, the Pleco and 5 Silver Dollars. I'm afraid of overdoing it, so I'm asking for advice. Is this aquarium fully stocked? Can/should I add any more Cichlids (if so, some suggestions would be welcome. LFS about an hour away has a red head Geo that is beautiful). Can/should I add more Silver Dollars? Are there any other South American catfish that could call this tank home for life without overcrowding it?

I feel with that stock your full.all those species have potential size of 10+ inches, with exception of the SD.but they get large too and will add much to the bio-load.

That's what I was thinking. the Pleco is already pushing 10" (I know they have the potential to push 20" or more), while the Oscars Terror, and SDs are all less than 3". Its just hard to imagine this tank fully stocked while the fish are so small. I know, "give it a year...."

Are u planning to get a bigger tank or pond soon?
No. Why? Are you implying I'm overstocked? Its 135 gallons... I'm pretty sure my current stock is appropriate for my 135g aquarium. Just looking for agreement to that, or if a consensus says add a couple more Silver Dollars or another cichlid,

72"x20"x24" is a pretty big aquarium... More than plenty for two oscars, a green terror and a handfull of silver dollars. That's obvious. My question was, "is there room for any more?" The first response said "no". You said "you need more room." Are you serious?

I was just wondering if it was the final tank or a grow out, it is adequate for your fish, and u can add a few more fish. I wasn't implying u need a bigger tank. U could probably add another silver dollar or some large pictus as dithers .

Silver dollars can get pretty big with time, though in large groups I've heard they also get nippy. As for cichlids all grown your pretty well stocked. If your looking for more dither, I almost always recommend Denison barbs.

Sorry, I guess I was sleep deprived and read your post the wrong way. My bad.

Anyway, I had a setback. The GT was found on the floor after work today. Somehow the little guy slipped up between the filter and canopy. So, to replace him...

I'm thinking Severum and some Pictus catfish. My concern here is that the Oscars may try to eat the Pictus a few years down the road. Is this concern legitimate or unfounded? Don't really have any experience with Pictus Catfish.

As far as filtration, I have an overflow, with bioballs and gravel as the filter media, powered with a Little Giant pump rated at 700 GPH and two Penguin 350s, so (assuming everythign is running optimally) I have 1400 GPH, or just over 10X per hour.

yes the oscars will try eat the pictus, if it is the smaller kind.
