So I was browsing around on wonderful youtube today and saw a really nice native tank. It made me think of how seemingly easy and cost effective it would be to setup a native fish tank. I was just wondering what kind of setup I could have with a 4ft. x 2Ft. x 30 in. tank.

Could do a lot of things with that size tank. Sunfish, cyprinids, a stream tank, really whatever you want that won't eat each other or get to big such as Black Bass, Chain Pickerel, Trout, etc.

I'm just going out on a limb and guessing the nice native tank belonged to native fish keeper or "mrcatfish"

For filtration I was thinking about using 2 or 3 penguin bio wheels. The 350b models. Should that be good enough filtration? I know canisters or a sump would be ideal but I don't have that kind of money right now.

I picked up 2 penguins for 22.99 each today at petsmart. even if I don't use them long term I just couldn't pass them up at that price. plus I may trade my mom(who has a 26 gallon saltwater tank) two aqua clear 50s for her one 350b so I can have all three running on my tank....

That's a good sized tank for natives. Ive kept 3 Green Sunfish in a 55. Spawned them 3 or 4 times. Good fish. I filtered the tank with a sponge only. Water changes are key. Im in Jersey also, tons of sunfish all over.
