Hi, I was just looking for some suggestions on stocking a standard 180g with south americans. I am looking at a tank with somewhat larger fish, however I don't want to move into the region of single fish/species tanks as I don't want to have to deal with the aggression of pairs. I am open to Central American species, however I don't know how well they would fit into my 180g. Originally, i was looking at geos, but am unsure as i can't really find any tanks of the same size to use as an example. If anyone could provide some examples of suitable stock for this tank, that would be great.

If its any help, some fish that i like the look of include:

all geos
green terror
gold severum
pretty much all dwarf south americans (however I know that they wouldn't be that well suited to this sort of tank...)
midas
Acarichthys heckelii
Rocio octofasciatum

thats just off the top of my head, i know that they are not all compatible wit each other...

Geos + Severums + Angelfish + large body tetra (Lemon, Colombian, etc.) and then a nice collection of fancy plecos

+1 to Aqualoon. I'd also add a group of cories & consider making True Parrots - hoplarchus psittacus the centerpiece fish.

I just wanted to add that Severums come in all colors, really a wonderful cichlid. They get big but not too large where you need a massive tank for them, temperament wise they do well with some of the more peaceful South Americans like Geos and Rams yet they can hold their own in a Central tank with JDs and Texas (obviously not anything known to be too aggressive).

Wanted to post this link to the media section to help you get a better idea of what is out there - Severum Style~

adding a true parrot-hoplarchus psitticus- is a big gamble with aggression to all tank mates when it grows.
some people get lucky, but more do not
:-/

Ok, thanks for the help so far guys. So from what everyone has said, how would this sound?

1 gold Severum
12 or so geos (unsure what species, depends on the availability)
A shoal of lemons or equivalent
Maybe an angel or two, depending...

Would a green terror be too aggressive for this type of tank? And I don't know how available uaru are in Australia...

As well, I am very partial to the Acarichthys heckelii, but I don't know if they are compatible?

Thanks
Todd
