Im building a 250 gallon garage pond and plan on keeping either a single koi and a few goldfish or a pair of bullhead cats. Would you suggest any other type of catfish. The water will hover slightly above freezing in the water so no tropical fish. Im open to any other coldwater fish too. Should I be worried about there whiskers poking a hole in the liner.

channel cats get way too big for a 250 gallon. But bullheads only get to 12 inches right? They will be fine for a while and if I need to Ill upgrade in a while. Do you think I need to worrry about a hole getting poked in the liner.

Do it to it... Lol... I used to know a stream off Lake Havasu that was home to schools of bullhead babies... Went back after a flood; all gone... Crazy thing was the origin of the stream came from underground; my question; how the heck did these kids get in there?? Impossible for most humans to get back there; I had to two wheel it in on donkey trails? I always wondered how they made it to a stream that came from the mountains with no source to feed it??

In the NW the ground is teaming with underground streams, we a have a high water table(mostly in the fall/spring/ the rainier seasons)...studies show that fish can jump bodies of water this way, mostly when young..they don't need light to follow the water...bulleads are commonly, found in holes and caves so an underground stream would be like a highway to a new stream/lake/bod of water.

go with the bullheads^_^ awesome fish
