so i'm thinking of stocking a 29 gallon tank with a red point and a sajica, will this be compatible? if you have any other info about either of these fish or suggestions let me know.

you could probably do a male of one and a female of the other, but IMO you should go with one species and get a breeding pair. then you can watch the courtship behavior, color changes during the breeding process etc. you shouldn't have to worry about fry because in most cases the parents will eat any remaining fry when they're ready to spawn again. however, if you have a spare tank you could rescue the fry and possibly sell them for a little bit of cash...maybe enough to buy some fish food or filter cartridges with. :)

what do you want to know about these 2 species? I've kept HRP's before and spawned them and am currently keeping a breeding pair of sajica as well as several others. both species will grow to around 5" max and are much less aggressive than their cousin the convict. :)

I have also thought about one speices in a pair, but didn't want to worry about fry, but if they will take care of that the biggest is which to choose. Is either one better suited to the 29g? I've never kept either fish but from the reading i've been doing they seem generally sturdy fish. also, anything anyone would suggest for dither/target fish? are they peaceful enough for some tetras or would those become lunch? or possible some lil corys on the bottom? sorry for all the questions, just don't want to do this twice.

so anyone have any advice on what to put in with either one of these sp.?

well, sajica and HRP aren't as aggressive as cons like I said before, but a breeding pair is still going to be very territorial. you might be able to keep a school of hatchets or something else that will stay at the highest water level, but anything that ventures down towards the nesting area will get chased away. I would get the sajica or HRP as young as possible and grow them up with a school of something and see how they do as they get bigger and pair off. you may need to remove the schooling fish or you may be able to keep them in there. You'll just have to play it by ear. :)
