stocking 40 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Given the 13" height, I wouldn't put anything more than convicts or a firemouth in there for life. Others of those same genus should be fine too.

And of course all dwarf cichlids are fine in that size tank.

:iagree:
Salvinis are great fishes, I've got a breeding pair

i would say

pair of cons
pair of firmouths
1 JD
1 GT
( 1 of these choices , not all of them)

thats about it imo i would go GT :headbang2

I would aquascape heavily with plants and driftwood, then get a couple pair of firemouths.

thanks for the advice everyone.Im leaning towards a pair of salvinis or firemouths and maybe a pleco.how does that sound?

Is this a possibility 1 female salvini, 1 fm firemouth, 1 fm convict and maybe a pictus cat with dithers.

Well right now I have a FM, Con, and a Salvini in a 40 breeder. All males except for the FM but shes not mature yet so there is no friskyness from the con. Really no aggression problems so far besides the FM, shes a MAJOR B**CH! Other that fine. I also have a Red Tiger Mota in there but him and the sal are going into the 125 in 3 days. I am overstocked with just the Salvini, FM, and con( did this on purpose because I knew my 125 will be setup so don't flame) ... so i recommend to you that you don't put all those fish in. The sal, Fm, and con will work until they get to 4 inches then they need an upgrade. All mine are still sub-adults. Your best bet is:
option1: 1x sal 1xFM and dithers or a pictus cat
option2" Sal, Con, diths, etc
option3: con, fm, etc.
This will be fine for life.
