Hey, I've got a little five gallon tank for my desk at work and I was wondering if anyone has advice on stocking.

African dwarf frogs!
Or neon tetras
or a combo,
Or a crayfish(not with the frogs)

But I would strongly look into the African Dwarf Frogs, great little guys!

Even a little brine shrimp set up wouldn't be bad could be funny, put a little castle in there with them

Dwarf frogs huh? I've never kept those before, any incite into their behaviors or care?

Well the hangout at the bottom of the tank, mostly sitting there but walking around also, they come up for air ever now and then, always funny catching them shoot up from the corner of your eye, they eat bloodworms, actually they devour bloodworms.
They have funny interactions with each other, mine used to fight, sometimes one would bite the others arm and they would have a little scrap, no harm ever came of it.
You would have to look into the heat and ph lvl they require, I am dusty on the specifics of their care

Frogs are a possibility. I'm wondering about dwarf puffers though. I am fond of the cuteness, but I've never had puffers before. Don't see them often around here.

i try to stay away from tanks smaller then 10

for a few reasons

-water temp can change easy causing many problems
-few fish can live in a 5 gallon tank
-water changes are needed more often

your best bet stocking is a betta or a single gold fish

good luck anyway...

There's no gold fish that can live in a tank that size. They all get at least 6 inches most of them more. I wouldn't put a gold fish in a tank less than 20.

The tank is going to be in a really obsessively climate controlled room so the room temp will be constant and the tank's internal climate and filtration controls shouldn't have to deal with peeks and valleys.

I'm thinking of maybe some micro world, puddle life sort of scale. I know there are little creatures that can live in 5 gallons or even less sometimes. Maybe I'll make a local fauna tank ... I'm still open to suggestions for fish that are known to be interesting to watch.

Why not set it up as a miniature rain forest?

Maybe get a small fountain pump and create a waterfall? Add small or slow-growing plants. It could even have a river and pond in it.

It would be a huge challenge to get it in scale. Would be really neat. :D
