I've just moved my red devil from a 55g to a new 75g and get to take the 55g back up to my apartment (still in college!) Any stocking suggestions? I definitely want cichlids, but I think I'm going to veer away from the larger varieties as I don't want to have to upgrade and later have to move and even larger aquarium when I go to graduate school...

Some considerations were a half dozen of one of the following:

Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth cichlid)
Amphilophus salvini (Salvini cichlid)
Hemichromis bimaculatus (Jewel cichlid)

I know that agression amongst both the salvinis and jewels may become a problem in a 55g, but should any pairing occur I would probably get rid of the rest of the fish and leave the parents to do their thing (and try to barter off the babies for food and supplies at the lfs!)

Other considerations included either a single Texas or FH, but unless one of them could comfortably live out the rest of their life in the 55g, I would prefer to not put them in there in the first place.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I'd say salvinis or jewels I think they look better

I currently have 3 jd's 1 strawberry peacock and one pink convict they are all medium sized now (lfs medium size 3 inchish) they get along fine and the con and the peacock is what made the jd's calm down on aggression and they all swim around now.and 2 plecos which i hardly consider fish
strawberry peacock max size 7" least aggressive fish in my the tank
