I am looking for any ideas for stocking a 55 gallon river tank. I got bored a couple of days ago and decided to go ahead and build a river tank, by putting 2 AC 70 powerheads (400 gph/ea.) and running 1/2" pvc under my sand to the intakes on the opposite side of the tank. It provides a VERY strong current, so they will have to be a strong river fish. I am planning on putting in some dead spots so there won't be any problems with too much current.

My only idea, as of right now, was to keep some Puntius denisonii. But, they are kind of expensive around here.

I planned on putting some pictures on here, but have ran into some problems with my camera. I won't be able to get any pics until sometime next week.

Dude, that is a seriously kick ass idea.

was thinking of the same idea a few months ago, i was looking at a small group of barilius as theyd look great dashing after food in that current

The initial design was taken from the loach site, but I slightly modified it.

I will probably drop a couple of loaches in there just to see them play in the current.

Cool suggestion. Something I would have never thought of. I am going to have to check on the availability here. Thanks.

Anyone else have ideas?

How about Aplinodotus Grunniens, the Freshwater Drum?

There is a fish farm in Texas that sells Rainbow Trout fry. If you are interested I can post a link when I fix my desk top. (I only use my laptop as a spare and don't have my fish links on it). You will need a chiller for them. Chillers can be made with a dorm room fridge by drilling two holes in it and then putting a coil of tubing in it.

I like the native idea, but not sure if they will be able to go with loaches that I was thinking about doing in the tank.

This tank is working out great. I threw some sand in it last night and then put some river rocks in there this morning and half of them are already covered from the current being so strong. I didn't think that this would happen since the powerheads are about 8" above the sand.

It would be a native tank for me:D . I would go with a really nice community of darters and topminnows. Oh man the possiblities. You could breed darters for sure! That would be cool.
