Stocking 55g tank

Ok, so I just got a 55 gallon tank last week and I've been doing some research and have decided to do an african rift lake cichlid and want to know whats kinds of cichlids you guys would recommend I get and how many I should add to the tank at first.

If your gonna do the Africans do a bunch of em because that way they won't focus their aggression on one fish killing it.

I was thinking mbuna since they're the most readily available where I'm at.
