Hi I have been trying to decide my stock for ages and just got all muddled. I know my tank isn't that big but I'd really like two cichlids I really want a interactive cichlid but have my heart set on a green terror. As tank mates I would like a pictus, green phantom and a dither(if room). Thanks in advanced

Could add some barbs to creat some activity, maybe redline torpedo. .. will have to stay ontop of you water changes once that terror grows and tbh adding one smaller cichlid in that tank will be a risk... maybe a pair of rainbows or a brown acara at a push.

yeah, females are prettier and smaller so would suit better, along with the catfish and plec it will be a sick little setup, imho it would be better to stick to another south american cichlid such as brown acara/port cichlid.

south americans, obv you cant have some such as oscar or orange pike but google some of the others and see what you think...

Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus/discus)
Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
Altum Angel (Pterophyllum altum)
Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus)
Severum (Heros severus)
Festive Cichlid (Mesonauta festivus)
Jurupari Earth Eater (Satanoperca jurupari)
Thread-Finned Cichlid (Acarichthys heckelii)
Waroo (Uaru amphiacanthoides)
Emerald Cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis)
Orange Pike Cichlid (Crenicichla sp. 'Xingu I')
Speckled Pike Cichlid (Cichla temensis)
Port Acara (Cichlasoma portalegrense)
Chameleon Cichlid (Australoheros facetus)
Green Terror (Aequidens rivulatus)

The main problem with that size tank is that a Green terror can potentially fill it by itself. I've not personally had the pleasure of keeping one into full adult size ~12-13 inches, but I have kept a few that reached 8-9 inches in a year. A convict and a green terror are compatible, but if either of them becomes aggressive, that size tank won't allow for much error. You might get lucky... or one may kill the other.

I like the severum and discus

if you get a female green terror you could do severum imo, discus are pretty fragile and can only really live with the most placid cichlids from what ive heard

Thanks I think I will go with that I love Severums and have always wanted one. Do you think I could fit a few dithers in like 6 tiger barbs

probably, you could do severum and blue acara which is basically a mini green terror then a shoal or barbs, a spotted pim and your plec... maybe a zigzag eel too!-)
