I am getting a 65 gallon tank soon. I have one Jack Dempsey. What else do I need to stock it with? Thinking of a red belly pacu....

For your and the fishes sake don't get red belly pacu, a 65g is only 18 inches and the pacu will get all ugly and deformed from bashing into the front and back of the tank.. they grow from 20 to 30 inches long, they grow as big as Cats and Dogs! They are prone to freakouts and might break your tank glass. They might chew up any equipment in the tank with their nut-cracking teeth. They need like a tank that isn't less than 30 inches front to back or they will stunted. jack dempsey are territorial if you have a lot of decorations and in the tank you could get away with a decent sized pleco

Is it a male? Some JD are meaner than others, i definitely worry if its a male about him attacking and killing other fish smaller in size than him. Based on his demeanor you'll have to decide if the pleco(s) can live with him, if they already do now it shouldn't be a problem otherwise I'd only try housing the larger one with him. Can't guarantee you that it will work or he won't kill it as I have friends who kept JD and pleco together but also have seen complaints online that people have had JD that killed all their tankmates including pleco. You can rearrange the decorations weekly to reduce aggression. Oh also people put oscars in with JD and it works but I don't think a 65g can accommodate both for life.
