I have just upgraded my tank to a 6x2x2 and am now looking to stock it. I have a few fish from previous tank and another grow out tank.

4 adult severums 2.2
1 juvenile red spot severum
A young 3" pair of Jack Dempsey
A young possible pair of Sajica 1-2"
1 female Nicaraguan cichlid
2 geo altifrons 2-3"
1 4" male bonsai flowerhorn (slight impulse purchase but he plays well with others although chases the red spot a little just because he can.

I like my dempsey pair the most.

I want to know what people recommend to stock plus extras.

I would also like a tank king to patrol but be somewhat mellow.
Ideas are Chocolate Cichlid, Pearsei or Synspilum?

Tank has loads of granite boulders creating caves and breaks in lines of sight and bogwood.

Are guidance would be appreciated.

6X2X2 is 180gal

6X2X2 is 180gal
It was a guess and also UK gallons which is 150g.

In my opinion you could house most of them fish in a 180
So stocking:-
Dempsey pair
Sajica pair
2-5 severum
Geophagus group
A school of barbs or tetra.
Maybe the flowerhorn, unless he tries to pair with anything.

What about the gentle giants, which of those would be best, the chocolate or pearsei? Or wild card Synspilum?

I have chocolates in a smaller tank, but great mellow fish.i would try to get a male. male Pearsei could work too. I have not owned them personally but read many good things about their temperment

Thanks, have done some extra research and Pearsei are going to be taking up a lot of the tank real estate, and adding far more strain on filtration compared to the Chocolates. Shame as they are beautiful!

I'm a big fan of RedHook silver dollars to add movement to a setup. What substrate are you using? Since you decided on a group of Geos, may want to have an open space with smaller grade substrate for them to sift through. As far as the Big guys go - a lone Pearsei shouldn't be problematic.

I'd be careful with the FH. At 4", it hasn't yet reached adulthood. I've not kept them myself, but I have read many accounts of them being on the aggressive side. I'd move it before you come home to a bunch of dead or beat up fish.

Chocolates and pearsei are good choices for gentle giants. Bocourti would be a good choice as well. My experience with synspilum has been that they are pushy, as are all paratheraps that I have kept. The sevs will get bullied and the geos would get owned.
