sTOCKING A 135

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
for substrate I use pool filter sand, only downside is it takes alot of rinsing
And you can do a canister filter but I would strongly suggest a wet dry sump instead, I can put up a drawing of what I plan to do here if you want it is pretty easy to make/understand

i think the width won't be sufficient enough for the lima. clown knife woul be great because it has a more flexible body.
What?? The fish you mentioned over the Lima gets significantly larger... In that aquarium I highly doubt the Lima getting to 18"..

Thanks for all of the ideas! What do you guys recomend as far as substrate is concerned.
You can use sand, gravel, crushed gravel, whichever you prefer.

Another question. My aquarium has overflows. I was wondering if canister filters can be plumbed directly to overflows instead of a sump.
The canister filter will come with it's own plumbing with all the necessary things to run it into the canister, and back into the tank. You can just plug the holes of the overflows with bulkheads if you choose to take this route. Deciding over a wet/dry system and a canister really depends on the bioload capacity of the canister you choose, and what you will be keeping. In my opinion, canisters leave me worrying a lot less..

I purchased a Esshopps wet/dry sump rated for a 200 gallon and Rio 17HF. I also plan to add a canister filter when more funds are available. Other stoking option; Oscar, Black and White Datnoid, 1 Lima or one of those oriental type cats, 1 or 2 bichir, and 2 tinfoil barbs or 2 0r 3 clown loaches.

If your going the oddball route I would steer you towards a stock list like this
2x datnoids
1x bgk
6x clown loaches
10x bichir
1x lima cat

How does something like that sound?

What is a bgk. I am not good with abbreviations. Should I stock all of these at once or slowly. Most of my experience is in Saltwater. I like the list but seems like alot of fish.

If you need more funds, return the sump and make one yourself, it's a lot cheaper.

I added a Black Ghost Knife today. Hes is a beautiful fish. He weights in at a whopping 3.5 to 4 inches. My next addition will be the clown loaches. The rest of the fish I want will have to be ordered. Bichir, Datnoid, and Lima Cat. I have also thought about 4 or 5 Pictus Cat instead of Lima. Decisions :-)
