Hi all.

I have just got a 150g Reef ready tank and I may want to set it up as a brackish tank. If I cant use the overflows, I dont mind. I could always just plug the holes (I think). Anyways..Heres my question:

The tank dimensions are 72x18x28" (LWH)

What combinations of fish species could I have in this tank? How many of each? Just a general suggestion, of any magnitude of what I could do with this beast would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all in advance.

I would go with 4 archers and a couple of Bolivian cats to keep the bottom clean. Or a nice school of mono a's and a couple of random gobies. mono's, archers, scats and bolivians will all approach 12in or better and all seem to like to school. I say better to overstock now and have a reason to upgrade later -lol

Hmm. My favorite brackish fish Ive seen so far are BBGs, Violet Gobies, and F8 puffers. I also really like mudskippers. Here lies my problem. Would BBGs get lost in a tank so huge? F8 puffers cant be kept with BBGs. Skippers cant be kept with any of them (as far as I know). So, this brings me to three main setup solutions:

Tank 1:
BBGs
Mollies
Guppies
Flounder
Violet Gobies

Tank 2:
F8/GS Puffers
Archers
Monos

Tank 3:
Skippers
Crabs

If theres anything I missed, Id appreciate it if you could let me know.

Thanks

My vote would definitely be tank 2. Check out fan dancer gobies, they are pretty entertaining and mine get along fine with the puffer and mono's. Your other 2 options might be suited to a smaller tank, besides the violet goby. If you have the 150 might as well get your money out of it IMO.

1st option wouldn't work, I don't think guppies would do well in brackish, and if the salt didn't kill them, the goby would. The mollies would also get eaten. Tanks 2 and 3 sound good though. I'd go with option 2.

btw, what are "BBGs"?

BBG=bumblebee goby

Oh. Those would get eaten too if you went with the first option. It's not a good idea to put any small fish with violet gobies, they are predators and often reach 18"+. I think their max size is 2'.

Ive read from many, many places that violet/dragon gobies often habitate well with BBGs. Either way, I think it would be awfully hard for them to find food in such a large tank anyway. I may set up a 20g long with just BBGs and maybe a few peaceful livebearers.

If I were to go with tank 2, what would you suggest as far as a stocklist?

What if I did decide to go with option three? Has this ever been attempted with such a large tank?
