Alright, here's the situation. Pardon the TL;DR.
A friend of mine was "inspired" by my enthusiasm for Aquariums and wants to start his own tank. We've been working on this visiting LFS after Petsmart after LFS for the past few days now looking for fish.
He bought a simple 10 gallon tank bundle that came with a cruddy filter and lamp I think from Top Fin. We put the gravel in and he got a bunch of plants for it and everything. I even managed to persuade him to have a little patience to let it cycle first before he bought fish.
It looked great, until...
First he wanted a big school of neons, maybe some tetras, etc. However, a few LFS visits changed all that, and now, to make a long story short - he now has about - 8 neon tetras, 4 fancy guppies, 1 Farowella Pleco, 1 Bumblebee Catfish, 1 Dojo Loach, 2 Fiddler Crabs, 4 Ghost Shrimp, 1 Frog, 3 Assorted Tetras, 2 Cory Cats, 2 Fan Tail Mollies, 2 Otocinclus, and at least 5-6 others that I can't think of at the moment. I think we counted over 20 fish in total. He almost bought a crayfish too but I had to stop the sales clerk from netting anymore fish for him.
I tried to talk a little logic into him but he was buying on impulse left and right and now his 10 gallon tank is packed with fish not to mention a lack of space with 4 plants and a big root accessory in the center. A couple of them have already died but anyway, he now has his sights set on my 29 gallon tank that I've been wanting to get rid of forever.
He wants to do the same thing in the 29 gallon except with far more fish.
So, being a good friend, I want to set him up something that he won't end up throwing money away on. Something he'll appreciate...
So my question is, what can I permanently stock a 29 gallon tank with that'll have some nice sized fish?
I'm willing to get an Aquaclear 50 gallon capacity filter for it and even a stand. I'm looking to put at VERY MOST 5 good fish in this tank for him. He wants "cool" fish so I'm thinking of Cichlids but I'd like to see what you guys will suggest.
Thanks in advance.
