What are some cool stocking ideas for a planted 30 long. The dimensions are 36x12.5 and I went with this size because it fits perfectly under one of my other tanks. Filtration is a SunSun 302 canister.

I am only interested in stocking cichlids at this point and probably don't want to stock any apistogramma. What species would work in this tank size as a single specimen or even a pair or trio.

Species I've considered so far -

Pair of Jewels (h. Gutattus or h. Lifalili)

Single or pair of dwarf pike

Pair or trio of Honduran red points

Single salvini (not sure on size here)

Rainbow cichlids

Any other suggestions? I'm into the idea of some more rare SA/CA cichlids as long as a single or pair can live in a 36" tank.

i think its too small for a salvini. I've seen a few that were pretty big.

if you could get your hands on a c. regani that would be pretty cool.

Geophagusor Gymnogeophagus.......I had a pair of Brasiliensis in my 30L until they paired up a few days ago, and a juvenile Gymno balzanii and a EBJD w/ a bunch of dithers and bottom-feeders. All live in harmony as long as no one pairs up.

A few years ago I had a pair of Laetacara Dorsigera that I kept in a planted 40gal breeder. These are gorgeous cichlids, especially when breeding. Other inhabitants were a shoal of 7 penguin tetras and a trio of Corydoras Haraldschultzi. It was a really nice little tank. Very peaceful for a cichlid tank. I wish I still had it.

Just stumbled across t bar cichlids aka sajica tonight. Very cool fish I just can't tell how big they really get. Look small in all the pictures.
