Hi, So I'm stocking a 300 gallon and considering an eel. I've never had an eel before and don't know much about keeping one. I'm wondering if you guys can give me some tidbits on keeping eels. I Really like the fire eels and also considering the Tire track eel. Which one is more interactive and personable? I've seen some videos of fire eels and love how interactive they seem to be with the owner. Are most fire eels really interactive and what about tire track eel are they the same? How big do each get and what is growth rate? Are these guys escape artist? Are they compatible with most fish. I currently have Lima Shovelnose cat, pictus cat, silver dollars, oscar, and clown knife. All fish currently are smaller. sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance:)

Well from what I have read they both get around 36". I have a young tire track that I regularly hand feed. The growth rate seems to be pretty slow. Both are beautiful. I would think any semi agressive fish would be ok as long as it can't be food. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

as with any predator its better to err on the side of caution. From what I've heard and seen eels tend to be decent community tank residents but again they are predatory fish and anything smaller than them that fit in their mouths have the pontential to be an expensive feeder.
