Im thinking about stocking it with a female jack dempsey, male firemouth, 2 female green sunfish and a bristlenose pleco. In not worried about the sunfish because right now the fish (except the bristlenose) are in a grow out 15 ga together. Any ideas, recommendations or concerns?

Is it a 40 breeder?

That's roughly the same footprint I have in my 55, and I have a female JD in there who is doing quite well; growing steadily with plenty of places to hide.

I'd say go for it, the only thing I'd be concerned with is if and when you tried to add other fish, JD would probably freak out lol.

I didn't read the post properly, I wouldn't add all those fish, just go for the JD

So I can do the Jd by itself or could I do it with two sunfish and firemouth?

Btw the sunfish I think wont get pass 5 inches because their f2 babies and the previous generations didn't get pass that even when in a 75 gal

I don't think that it would be wise to put green sunfish in a 40 gallon tank with anything else IMO. I have one that is about 5 inches with two green texas cichlids and a green terror in a 125 gallon. He doesn't usually like them being near him and would probably either kill them or be killed while attempting to kill them in a 40 gallon

You have a male their usually the aggressive ones females are usually laid back also I might be getting a 50 gal () instead of the 40 breeder.

I meant 55 not 50

From experience, I'd say the firemouth would get beaten up by everyone else in all of the tank sizes you mentioned.
