hey im getting a 4 foot 50g tank witha 11 year old gold fish hes about 9-10" long and i want to put some more stuff in with him. but i dont want the normal goldfish/surbumkins etc has any 1 got any ideas about some strange/large coldwater fish i could get

that's not a particularly large tank, so I'd be wary of adding another large fish in there

i have a 300g indoor pond with just a sturgin in atm. so when they get to big i can move them to that might move the goldfish there asap. so room when they get to large is not a problem really

any ideas

grass pickerel
red fin pickerel

If you want a predator. They are very diffucult to break off live foods so be prepared to feed feeder fish

im loving that high fin banded shark seems really cool but are they ok with the big goldfish?? and how long befor they get to the 2ft size??

Are you in Durham, NC? Lots of cool local fish there. I suggest fliers or dollar sunfish. Dollars are a bit feisty, but your goldfish will be too large for them to intimidate. Flat bullheads would also be a good addition.

I suggest staying away from Myxocyprinus. It gets too big (up to 3 feet or more) and is too finicky. There are some members of its family (Catostomidae) local to you that would be more appropriate, such as white suckers (Catostomus commersoni), chubsuckers (Erimyzon sp.), and hogsuckers (Hypentelium sp.). These species' maximum sizes are 18-24", and most individuals stay smaller than that; if they get too big they can go in your pond. These species are a little more tricky to keep than goldfish or sunfish, but if you are interested I can point you to some care info.

If yer in the U.S. then you could put a pumpkinseed pair or a pair of some other species of native sunfish.

yeah they grow pretty big but if you're willing to upgrade then it should be perfect. they are cold water species.
