what combo of ca/sa cichlids would work in a 55? tell me what species and how many total fish. and if you dont think it would work what single species would be the best in that tank. im adding a new tank to the fish room and i have very little experience with these fish as i am more of a salt water guy. just looking for suggestions. thanx

As far as cichlid go you look into Africans, not my cup of tea or some of the smaller SA Acaras, Apistos, Rams if you want several fish. larger CA that would fit is Sajica, Salvini fish in the 6-7" max range IMO. Also if you want one, a pair or a few. There are many types of fish available to set up a nice tank around, just think about what you envision the tank looking like.

i am completely open. i have a 265 with an arowana, frt and dats, a 180 salt fish only, a55 cold water sunny, and a 30 brackish mudskipper. the new 55 is free from a family member and i cant not just set it up. so i was just looking for something different

If your looking for somthing different I like some of the smaller SA Acaras. You could look at the Tangiled up in Cichlids web site and take a look at some different types of fish available or look in the vendor forum section on here. The options are many. Fiermouths, Convects are a couple of other fish that will go nicly in a 55. The best thing to do is reasearch some of the options mentioned and if you see somthing you like come back and we'll try to help you fine tune it add dither, bottom dewlers or give you advice as far as if a particular combination will work.

I would go with a Jack Dempsey, Convict, Salvini, Firemouth or Jewels. You could also go with some of the peaceful cichlids too like Rams and Acara's. Depending on which you select will determine how many you can keep.
