I just received a new 125 gal. tank and I am torn between getting a dovii or a fahaka puffer. I have been doing research on both but no idea which to choose.

I am interested in doing live feeding.
I was also considering doing a snail tank if I get a puffer but I don't know much about that.

And yes I am willing to upgrade tank size when the time comes if needed

Welcome aboard

I personally never kept either specie but have kept smaller puffer and cichlid species.
I've read here that the Dovii and Fahaka can become good wet pets but I wouldn't stick my hand in the aquarium with either lol. I'm not a live feeder person anymore due to the risk your taking if feeders aren't quarantined prior. There are some very experienced members here that keep Puffers and will gladly share the rearing of snails.

Dovii get way to big for a 125. Fahaka would be perfect. Snails are pretty easy to raise as are crayfish. Feed them what you'd feed your fish, higher veg would be best. You can use totes or tanks or buckets for snails. Do bare bottom for snails. Water change as you would for fish or more often. If you have soft acidic water put crushed coral or cuttle bones to add calcium.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.
