Would any large fish fit in a square 76cmx76cm tank? 60cm high. I understand square tanks are disadvantaged compared to rectangle ones.

Ps most fish are banned here in australia so it would need to be available

I like square tanks a lot. I think fish like the open space in the middle, and there is actually around 106cm corner to corner in your 76cm square tank.

So i would be fine with cichlids up to 6" but probably not best for anything thats larger and very active. The biggest fish i would consider for that tank are a few fancy goldfish maybe.

Im not sure whats all available in australia but hoplo cats would work imo. It would be great for larger corydoras imo, sterbai cories being my choice. Several of the smaller Synodontis cats like petricola, schoutedeni, nigriventris, or lucipinnis would be good too.

A hoplo is not too expensive (60$) and looks nice, i may get one of those. I would do cichlids but i'm not too big of a fan of them. one day i'm going to keep fork-tailed catfish in a huge 8x4ft tank hopefully
