dimensions are 48x18x31 tall.

Stock Options:
A)
1 JD pair
1 Red Devil

B)
1 JD pair
1 Salvini or Convict pair

I plan to get very young fish around 2 inches. Would some type of schooling fish such as serpae tetra or giant danios last for a while? Finally, could I have some kind of catfish like bristlenose, rubber lip or common plecos?

its gonna be tough to have tankmates with any breeding pair in a 4 ft tank. It might work but it might not. I think single jd salvini and convict would be fine with a school of giant danios or something for dithers. Iknow its 115 gallons but as far as the ca cichlids are concerned its the 48x18 footprint they will call home and make there territories in. and the red devil would probably destroy the jds before they ever got to pair up

So a RD would probably keep that whole thing to himself? I thought so. I think I'll try a JD pair and another small pair of cons/firemouths/salvini. I have a spare 30 gallon in case they need rescuing.
