Right now I have 3 eretmodus gobies & a single daffodil cichlid, I was thinking of adding 5 altolamprologus compressiceps "fire fin", but I think it might be a bad idea. If I decide not to go for them, whats a good species to add instead? preferably a group of 5. Should I even be considering adding more fish or is my tank sounding a tad overstocked?!

please, any advice is appreciated.

I think 5 would be pushing it. If your fish are small, you could probably get away with a pair for a little while... until your gobies pair and start spawning. Gobies can get really nasty and will wreck each other and whatever else is sharing a 29 with them. You will need to upsize eventually to a 55 or better a 75.

I've noticed that, I have one of the gobies in a breeder box because it wasn't in the healthiest condition when I got it. I noticed the other two would pick on this individual. Upon paying closer attention to it, the reason was clear not only was it slightly smaller than the other two it was undernourished; so I'm bulking the little guy up to give it a fighting chance. So far the largest of the three will chase the one left in the tank around, but they don't really do the whole cichlid size up thing the other one is less dominant than the biggest one. As for the single Daffodil nothing really bothers it, from what I've observed it's proven to be the most dominant fish in the tank. I would love to upgrade, but space is very limited; at most I may be able to do a 65g being that it's only 6" longer, 6" wider.. with the most realistic option being, trying to find something that works in the tiny 29g.

What if I scrapped the idea of a breeding pair of gobies & sold off the other two; keeping the best example, and getting a small group of something else?

You are just so limited with that tank size. I would look into some shellies instead.

I know.. it really sucks, I was contemplating the idea of two species kept singly, & 3 of the same species with the total number of fish in the aquarium being 5, but 3 of the same thing still leaves the possibility of a spawn; which ultimately means that there is always going to be some sort of aggression issue.. :(

I don't mind shellies but I've always been more interested in the mid-sized tanganyikans, on top of that I've invested too much $ in rocks/stones to just remove the structure & replace it with shells that aren't even close to as nice as the rocks, no offence just my honest opinion.

JC, If you got rid of your bed you could have a 6 foot tank and all the tanganyika cichlids you've always wanted. Whats so bad about sleeping on the floor?
