I bought my sister a 55g for her birthday. She wants SA cichlids but I'm not sure what would fit. She wants nice colors or patterns. Any Advice?

i think your better off with african cichlids. they come inabout every color and very mildly aggressive. i have a 65g african and i filled it with peacocks but im still waiting for them to color up so whatever you do, DO NOT BUY UNCOLORED FISH AND WAIT. its been 2 months and they have just began to color up.......
sticking to the question you actually asked, there are quite a few SA cichlids to choose from, all depends what kind of quality LFS you have around, whether you are willing to buy fish online, etc.
also depends if you want multiple fish or singles, you could have a group of firemouths, a pair of salvini, if ur more in to single fish green terrors, JDs are easy to find and males have great colors, may be able to squeeze somethin in with em just depends on the fish. Lots and lots of options those are just a few that would be easy to find and fairly inexpensive, like i said the variety u can get a hole of is really ur biggest limitation
