I currently have the following species in my 65 long
Yellow Lab x4
Lab "Nkali" x4
Red Top Hongi x4 But soon to be traded
Cyno Afra Cobue x4
Aulonocara Hansbaenschi
Julidochromis Marlieri X2 (Tanganyikan I know)
In a few months, I will be setting up a 125 for these fish as a new home and I am looking at getting a larger 9"+ fish as sort of a "show fish"

I have made a list of fish which have caught my eye:
Nimbochromis Livingstoni
Dimidiochromis Compressiceps
tyrannochromis macrostoma (Have my doubts as it gets 14"+

My question is, what is everyone's experiences with these fish and could you recommend something which meets what I'm looking for and is not as likely to go postal?

Cheers

D. Compressiceps will need a minimum 75 as adults (i have 5 juvis currenly in a 75 but will only be keeping 1 male and potentially 1-2 females, Nimbochromis needs minimum 100-125 as adults, and tyrannochromis need min 125-150 as adults. Plus your julies and possibly some of your mbuna will likely be eaten. all of these fish grow around a foot long and are the top predators of lake malawi, I know for a fact D. Compressiceps can eat fish up to 3-4 inches as adults. Plus they are haplochromides, they need lots of open space as they are very energetic (except for d. compressicpes which are ambush predators and hence the smaller tank size but they are adapted to blend in with the open water or amont vals, not the dense rockwork mbuna prefer). don't get any of them in a 65 for life.

You could try a Dimidochromis Dimidatus. they are similar to compressiceps but grow about 7-8 inches as opposed to 10-11

Thank you
I do not have the larger fish as of yet, I will likely look into the dimidatus once the 125 is up and everyone has claimed a territory. If i cannot find one, hopefully another member here can recommend a larger cichlid appropriate for my tank.

Yup, as of right now, the only inhabitants of the tank are juveniles of the original stock list.

if you don't mind transferring and risking the julies and the peacock if it's female you could probably get away with compressiceps or livingstonii since female comps get closer to 8 or 9 but are much less colourful for the 125 assuming it is not floor to ceiling rock that mbuna prefer.

also i noticed your in canada, where are you in canada. if your in the GTA area I could give you a discounted compressiceps or two if you decide to use the 125?

Ive been looking around again and have found the Protomelas Spilonotus "Sulfur". From what I've read it gets to about 10" which is near the limit I would want for a 125. Now the question is, will it pose a threat to any of my other fish?

**Thank you for the offer, I'm about 2hrs N.E of Toronto.
