I upgraded my 55g to a 75 this weekend. My current stock is a 9 inch Senegal, 5 inch retropinnis, 3 synodontis oceliffers and a ctenopoma. I have a delhezi in a grow out tank and I'm wondering when I can put it in the 75. It's eating really well and was 3.5 inches this weekend. How long should it be before I add it? I'd hate to have it get eaten but the Senegal doesn't bother the much slimmer retro... I'd also like to get opinions on stocking. I'd like to add one last poly. I've got two fluval 406s, it's densely planted and I do frequent pwcs so I'm not worried about filtration or water quality, just about floor space. Would 4 get along with that amount of floor space or should I stick to 3? Thanks! 20130722_162859.jpg

You could try one from the palmas complex, like a palmas palmas or a palmas polli. But that might be pushing it abit

IMO depending on his girth if you feel comfortable i'd say throw him in, but thats only if he has a good girth. Also as long as the senegal is full i wouldn't think he just out right hunt the del down. A couple months ago i had a 9-10" palmas palmas and a 3-4" senegal and i made sure the palmas palmas had plenty to eat so that he wouldn't look for the senegal. So i'd think that if you keep the sen full i don't really see a problem. Depending on what other poly you want i'd say sure you can get another one, but if you don't intend on upgrading i wouldn't suggest and ornate, teugelsi, and weeksii (although i've heard and experienced that weeksii take forever to grow). Also i like that pic over the tank did you make it?

Awesome set up! I think you should wait until the del reaches the same size as your retro. My sens have always gotten along with most of my fish and even like to snuggle with other polys. But I wouldnt risk adding a fish thats too small.

I think you could fit in one or two more upper jaw polys. :) I'd go with a weeksii or a teug. And as others have suggested, most SA/CA cichlids would do great with them. Just make sure you have enough space tho. Goodluck with your del!

Thanks guys! I think I will give it a final 2 weeks before I add the del. He's grown an inch in 1.5 weeks so hopefully in a couple more he'll be as big as the retro. I'll start looking for one of the palmas variety now!

I did, thanks! It originally had all the fish from the tank on it; I'm going to have to take it down and add some polys now.

I have had some significant size differences between my polys but i have never had a predation issue. I think keeping the big ones well fed should go a long way...even so, might as well wait as long as you can just to play it safe.

I want a retro more then any other fish atm! Lucky! The palmas would go great in there long as he's the right size, if not id use your old tank as a growout for him

I have had cannablistic predation of polys before, idk why they were fine for a week no fin nips feeding them brine shrimp and live feeders, then my senegal (4in.) Was gone, checked all around the tank and he didn't escape, so he was eaten by my Ornate Bichir which at the time was about 8 in. They were well fed, there were even live minnows in the tank after it happened!
