Hi I have just finished stocking my 48x14x20 tank and am interested as to whether I have overstocked or not?
If the Jack dempsey does turn out to be female and stays smaller could I get away with stocking like this? The tank is heavily planted and has heaps of driftwood and hiding places.

I currently have:
2 bristlenose catfish
1 Jack dempsey (possibly female)?
1 Featherfin Catfish
1 Convict
1 Orange Head Tapajos

TIA

and here is a photo of my jack.

Female. Looks really fat in that pic. Cation with feeding. And stock question-no. All are unknown how they will be. My male is a gentle giant to anything and everything small but I have seen females be really mean. Its not a set rule males are more aggressive

I think you're pretty stocked. The geo, jd, and catfish will get at least 8 inches. As mentioned the temperament of the jack can go one way or another. So can the temperament of the convict. I had a con in a 55 and he ended up taking over the tank lol.

I have only added the convict and the tapajos in the last 2-3 days and the female has been very aggressive against them all. I have had a lot of trouble finding tank mates for her as she always constantly harasses everything in the tank. I am tempted to return the jack dempsey to the pet store.
