I don't know much about Dwarf cichlids, but I'm looking to stock a single species (just 1 fish) and want a mini monster. So if anyone can give me a few ideas it would be helpful.

Steve

Most dwarf cichlids (South American) are best kept in pairs or small groups. Are you looking for an aggressive fish? Usually when people use the term "dwarf cichlids" they are referring to small SA species like rams and apistogramma.

Apisto caucatoides may fit your bill. They are a little bigger and beefier than they average apisto and very showy. Either a triple red or orange blaze would be nice.

oh, a mini monster, sorry. didn't read that part. Ummm... If you change that in your LFS for a 20 gallon Long, which would give you a 30" base, you could probably get away with a single rainbow wolf fish: Erythrinus erythrinus. That's a real monster. OR, if you want a cool shoal of monster fish, Exodons are great. You could probably get 5-10 in a 20L.

Check out this thread, it helped me a lot when I was looking for some fish for my 40

Thank you for the help. I didn't even know where to start. I will be looking for one of two fish. Telmatochromis vittatus or Neolamprologus similis. Again, thank you guys for the help!!!

Electric blue jack Dempsys... they get to a decent size... and arent aggressive...

And now a quote from American Pie

"
Jim's Dad: [about sex] It's like playing a tennis ball against a brick wall, which can be fun. It can be fun - but it's not a game.
Jim
: Right.
Jim's Dad
: It's not a game.
Jim
: No.
Jim's Dad
: What you want is a partner to return the ball. You want a partner, don't you, son?Jim: Oh yeah, Dad. I wan-I want a partner.
Jim's Dad
: Good. Good. That's very good."
