I'm relatively new to having aquariums and I want to make sure I'm not going to overstock a 20 gallon high I just set up. I already did a fish less cycle with ammonia for a month and added 8 harlequin rasboras and 4 oto cats. All the parameters have looked good for the past few days, with slightly acidic water(a steady 6.8), 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrites, and 10 ppm nitrates(left over from cycling despite numerous water changes, I'll be doing a water change tomorrow to get it down). I also have it planted with wisteria, ludwigia, anubias, rosette swords, some floating plants, and java moss on driftwood. I have a marineland penguin 150 filter rated for 30 gallons and a heater ( I keep it at 78 ). I have sand and smooth pebbles for substrate. I was wondering if in a few weeks I could add some small cories and honey gouramis. I was thinking about 3 or 4 panda cories and 1 male honey gourami. Also, would the cories freak out my otos or overload a part of my tank? I would really like to have the tank slightly under stocked. So would this plan work or should I just go with one type of fish? Thanks in advance!!!

no convicts.

iv never kept gouramis so i cant say from experience. i would think that corys would be fine. if i were in your position these are some fish i might think about adding:
black khuli loaches (atleast 6)
betta
banjo catfishes
celebes rainbowfish
threadfin rainbows
some kind of tetras, i like emperors, iv got a school of 12 or so
rams
keyhole chiclids
peacock eels
zig zag eels (not tire track eels)
a bunch of shrimp
galaxy rasporas
knight goby?
marbled hatchet fish
oh! and how could i forget? scarlet badis. scientific name is dario dario.

choose sparingly, i don't know that you tank can take anymore fish. with the filter running providing oxygen to the tank you can take a some more, but im concerned about a power outage or if your filter breaks and you cant replace it quickly.

Thanks for the reponses! I definitely know the convicts aren't a good idea. I had thought about bolivian rams but I've been looking for a long time and can't find any, plus I was worried that might overstock my tank so i've changed my mind about them. I know shrimp don't have a very large bioload so I'm interested in those as well. However, I'm worried about them competeing with my otos for algae, I do add cucumber for the otos and the ocassional algae wafer. Is there any shrimp that would eat flakes my rasboras missed and not outcompete the otos? Preferably not ghost shrimp though, I used to have a few with my betta and one tried to grab onto his fins. Do cherry shrimp scavenge?

I have amano shrimp and they eat anything my fish don't. Plus they're a good size, mine are about an inch and a half and growing.

Okay! Great! I know a few lfs nearby that order those now and then. They look like a good fit but I've read they're really hard to breed in an aquarium. Have you found this to be the case? I'd like a population of shrimp that would have some growth to it.
