Picking this up today or this weekend. This tank is for my office. So I'm already thinking about stocking options of course. The tank specs are 36" wide x 18" deep x 24"tall.

Now I personally prefer larger fish but I would like to know what my options are on both larger and smaller. I know because of the tank size I am very limited on the larger fish I can do and even a single fish in this tank would be fine for me.

yeah.
that size does kind of limit your options
too small for discus, arows, and rays.

is there any specific fish that you like?
you could do some convictsand an oscar, or some other SA chiclid and a smaller cat.
you could do a couple of africans, i like tangyanikans (sp.)
a couple of gouramis and some tetras, upside down cats, and killis.
or basically any small fish that you like.

try to make a theme, that makes it easier.
like an amazonian tank, and african river, SE asia.

would you be interested in doing saltwater?

Saltwater is not out of the question. I have never done one so it would be a major learning experence.

One of these would work...

Flowerhorn
Oscar
Possible female Jag
3 Piarania (20g each)

You go go with a sweet looking planted tank.
It would be very peaceful. Throw in a shoal of Neon Tetras... like 30!
That would be cool to see a cloud of neon tetras swimming around!

I have one of those and can tell you that while its a true space-saving solution for a nicely sized tank, it is also not big enough to keep any true monsters in it. Sure you could try a solitary flowerhorn (I know somewill disagre but I say that this tank will be big enough to accomidate a short bodied male for life), or perhaps a breeding pair of something midsized (think of JDs, salvinis, motas, etc.). If I had a spare 65 at this point however I would do either an african oddball tank (few polypterus, ropefish and synodontis for the bottom), a nice shoal of large congo tetras and an elephant nose for the mid-level and a couple of butterflyfish for the top), or a discus/angel tank with a few fancy pl*cos and cory cats for clean up

GREAT ONE!!! Maybe two and a firemouth or convict?

what about a single Frontosa?

when you say its for you office do you mea your home office or a real office? cause if its a real office then ur gonna have superioirs walking in and then its always nice to have a pretty tank... something either with some REALLY colorful cichlids or a saltwater reef setup.

Personally I would go for the oddball setup though
a few smaller bichirs and some rope fish ... and one or 2 african brown knifes...

they are not colorful but damn interesting to lookat

It is for a work office but I work for myself. Clients will be in here though.
