What are some really interesting FW eels.

what size tank?

Is this for your 125g? Tiretrack eels are cool they will become quite friendly and take food from your hand. Need to have extra secure tank top because they are escape artisits.

It is a different 125. My bro called me up and said you want a tank. So I took it. Pickin it up tomorrow! The other I bought from a LFS.

I had a FW snowflake a few years ago but he escaped one day while I was at work. He was on the floor about 6' from the tank!

Any more, I want a really active tank. Tankmates too!?

snowflake eels are NOT freshwater. they live in FW when they are young, but when they are adults, they live in brackish to full marine. so, i would go with a fire eel, or a tiretrack eel. or you could do a marine tank and get a moray. but don't put a moray eel (which is what a snowflake is) in fresh water. ever.

Connor, do the fire eels have the same 'bond' to their owners as the tiretracks? I've seen a lot of fire eels at LFS, do they keep their bright red and yellow colors into adulthood?

i don't know too much about a bond, because eels don't seem to be as intelligent as cichlid, but i do know that fire eels do keep their colour for their entire lives.

if you decide to get a fire eel or a tiretrack eel, you might want to look at some sort of cichlid, as the eels will stay at the bottom of the tank, and the cichlid will remain in the middle level of the tank. maybe get an oscar or 2, or something else that isn't too aggresive, but can still stand up for itself.

I was thinking of Red Hooks, maybe? I 've never owned any and haven't looked up any info on them yet. I'll google them later.

I've seen both take food from their owners hand. I suppose it all comes down to how hungry the fish is and how willing he is to take it from your hand.

What about the medusa eel. Actually a newt of some sort it has an eel like body, doesn't get big and is fairly freindly with other fish.

Waldo, you got a scientific name for the medusa eel, or a link with info? I googled it and nothing came up.
