I have not been in the freshwater hobby in a long time and need everyones help. I am currently breaking down my 75 gal saltwater setup and wanting to get back into freshwater. I am looking into a few different options. First is a single large aggressive fish with a medium size bottom dweller. Second is a breeding pair of fish. Third is a single male fish with a few females. And the last is a school of 8 or more fish. What fish would fall into these options I am considering? If possible could you post a pic of the fish or fishes that you suggest with the name. So I cn put a face with a name.

Thank You in advance
Rob

sorry no pics but this is what i would do to a 75

1. male dovii, umbee, haitians. etc with a catfish for bottom dwelling, but grow the cichlid first
2. anything from ca/sa including the ones above that i mentioned...etc...like festae, xilo's, zals..
3. that will be difficult to do since most ca/sa will only choose one female to pair up with...maybe you can go with frontosa's.
4. group of exodons will be nice

gl on your stocking.

You will never be able to keep either one of these fish in a 75 unless you are using it to grow them out, You would need a 180 minimum.

75, would be nice for a pair of jack dempseys or green terrors. It would be a good bare minimum tank for 1 large fish like a midas/red devil, or a managuense. If it were me I'd load it up with like 10 different cryptoheroes species and get the african cichlid tank effect, just with americans. If you wanted bottom dwellers find some cool plecos to grow out with you fish or.. my personal favorite addition to any cichlid tank is clown loaches (but you have to get 5+.)
