This is a cross post from AC. Sorry if that is against the rules but I really do need help with this. This is my first venture into the cichlid world. I have decided to try a shell/rock dweller combo setup. For the shellies, I am going with lamprologus stappersii. I have a LFS trying to find ten of them for me. I went to the river over the weekend and sifted three 2g buckets full of sand/pebbles from the river rock bottom. The largest particles are about 4mm with the average size being 2mm. I also grabbed some large flat rocks while I was there but will need to pick up some more for the rock dwellers. I also need to get the shells and I will be getting the tank this coming weekend. The water and filters from my 40g breeder will be going into the new tank to help the cycle. So, that is the back story now for the question. What rock dwellers would go well with the staps? I want something that stays relatively small so that I can have a nice sized group. I was considering brichardi but they are more of an all over fish. If possible, I may consider them as a third species for this setup.

Here is a link to the AC thread.

I am also going to need to know a bottom feeder and possibly and algae eater for this setup as well.

no sand? Shellies love sand...really a must for them

There is sand. Some of the really fine sand floated out in the rinse. I did mention in the original AC thread that I wanted to keep the rock that I had but that plan has changed. If I keep the plants in the tank, they will be incorporated into the rock work somehow.

So, I had a moment of epiphany. I was trolling around on the internet and saw a picture of a fish that I instantly fell in love with. I have decided to go with the SA cichlid, the Apistogramma cacatuoides. So, I guess I will have to start a thread in the appropriate section. Thanks everyone.
